Previously, 20th Century Studios owned the rights to both characters, but since its purchase by Disney, which also owns Marvel, rumours have swirled around the pair's inclusion in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine when he joins the cast of the highly anticipated Deadpool threequel, Ryan Reynolds has revealed.
Deadpool and Wolverine, while both Marvel characters, have never been part of the studios' wider cinematic universe , due to various licensing deals with 20th Century Studios. Earlier in the year, Patrick Stewart appeared in the Doctor Strange sequel as Professor X, marking the first time an X-Men character was included in the MCU.
