Katie Higgins spent a flight from Glasgow to Cork with her seatbelt barely fitting, despite recently losing two stone.

A plus-size beautician was left embarrassed after being "lassoed" by her seatbelt on a Ryanair flight from Glasgow to Cork, Ireland. Katie Higgins said she had barely an inch of room in her belt, which was cutting into her stomach.

Other plus-sized travellers echoed Katie's fury and said that they "can see the looks of disgust" from fellow passengers when they had to ask for an extender. Katie, from Ayr, said: "I flew on Friday, and I was lassoed by the seatbelt. It just fitted, but if it had been digging into me anymore, I would have been very uncomfortable.

"There must have been other people on the flight in a worse position than me. If it just fits, even if it's a bit tight, I'll let someone else use the belt. I think anyone who has experienced fatphobia could see it that way - I have unfortunately experienced a lot of this kind of thing. Katie says that her confusion only heightened on her flight home on Monday, August 14, when she was given a seatbelt that fitted fine, leading her to claim that flying with Ryanair is like "pot luck".
