You’ve said you always insisted that you would write your first feature – how did this script change your mind? I found it really funny, and it was a simple script, which is a great canvas for a director. There was so much room for me to build a world and add my spin on it. It was originally set in Camden, and I felt quite strongly that it needed to be set in South London because it’s such a misrepresented place. It’s often depicted as quite gritty and rough, South London generally and especially Peckham and Brixton.It was written by two guys, so they were interested in my take on Yas’s character.
