NRL: Former Rabbitohs coach Jason Demetriou is making his return, after being announced as the head coach for Papua New Guniea
Incoming Eels coach Jason Ryles has reportedly informed club captain Clint Gutherson that he is key to his plans for the club next season.
That is according to the Sydney Morning Herald, who reported the 45-year-old has informed Gutherson’s agent of his intentions to keep the No.1 at the club, extinguishing rumours the fullback’s time at the club was drawing to a close. New to Kayo?Since then, Ryles has nipped such speculation in the bud, meeting with Gutheron’s agent on Tuesday to put the rumours to bed.
However, according to the SMH, the incoming Eels coach intends to use Gutherson in a different role next season, though there were no details around where that may be.beginning next season, with these latest developments indicating the 21-year-old may be handed a full-time first grade gig under Ryles’ tutelage.
With Dylan Brown locking down the club’s No.6 jersey long-term, and Will Penisini and Zac Lomax likely to be Ryles’ first choice centre from next season, that leaves wing and off the bench as Gutherson’s likeliest roles for next season., paving the way for Gutherson to shift on the wing, though there is a world he features off the bench as a roaming forward role - similar to how the Storm utilised Ryan Papenhuyzen during 2019.
