KOTA KINABALU: Two new battalions of the General Operations Force (GOF) will be set up in Sabah in order to beef up security in the state, says Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.

The Inspector-General of Police said the addition of these brigades meant that Sabah will in future have altogether seven battalions established statewide.

Although the rate of cross-border crimes have gone down, he said, security threats still lingered based on information gathered from their intelligence work. "The threats remain despite our findings that security is under control as incidents of intrusion and cross-border crimes have reduced," he added.

On another note, Acryl Sani said the Malaysian security forces would utilise the training and experience learned from the joint exercises with their counterparts from Indonesia and the Philippines to ensure safety was preserved as well as to prepare for any eventuality.
