Dr. Saleh Al-Atabi, a physicist with alleged ties to Saddam Hussein's weapons program, has been employed as a scientist at Diamond Light Source, a prestigious research facility in the UK. Despite his past involvement with the Ba'ath party and a weapons facility, he was granted indefinite leave to remain in the UK after fleeing Iraq in 2006. His application for British citizenship has been rejected twice by Home Secretaries Amber Rudd and Priti Patel due to his alleged association with organizations that committed international crimes.

One of Saddam Hussein ’s alleged former weapons chiefs has been recruited as a scientist at one of Britain’s most important research facilities.

Iraq’s Military Industrialisation Committee, where Dr Al-Atabi worked for 11 years, made chemical weapons before the regime fell. Dr Al-Atabi fled here with his wife and two children three years after the 2003 US invasion which toppled Saddam.
