Salford council is advocating for a Metrolink expansion to the city's rugby stadium, aiming to enhance transportation options and attract more visitors to events. The council plans to leverage the stadium's ownership by promoting events and developing surrounding land for businesses. This initiative requires improved transport links, making a Metrolink expansion a priority. While TfGM's blueprint for Metrolink expansion includes potential lines to the stadium area, funding and business plans are needed before any construction begins.
Bosses say they want “more transport options” to the ground and have spoken to Transport for Greater Manchester about building another tram stop. The stadium - home to Salford Red Devils and Sale Sharks rugby clubs - came under council control last week after the town hall wrapped up a £7.7 million deal with Peel which took nearly 12 months to complete.
