Way back in 2011, Hayek was attached to produce an eight-hour miniseries adaptation of the musical, based on Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel, itself based on The Wizard of Oz. The story is set before Dorothy Gale's arrival in Oz, as told in the 1939 classic film The Wizard of Oz. Erik Jendressen was set to write the eight-hour miniseries, though the production never fully got off the ground.
