Geordie rockstar Sam Fender returned to the UK stage, performing at Leeds First Direct Arena and showcasing songs from his upcoming album 'People Watching', set to release in February 2025.
He’s the down-to-earth Geordie lad whose instantly recognisable voice and Bruce Springsteen-esque rock anthems have catapulted him to stardom.
We may have been nearly 100 miles from the Toon but that didn’t stop people donning Newcastle United shirts in support of Fender - and of course, he got some score updates during the night as they played Liverpool at St James’ Park. The imminent release of a new album means new music and four songs from People Watching make the setlist, including two unreleased songs in Nostalgia’s Lie and Arm’s Length and the newly released Wild Long Lie.
Mania on the floor followed as Spice saw things literally heat up in the arena thanks to flames that lit up the stage before Howdon Aldi Death Queue saw a two-minute punk-infused romp that triggered mosh pits in the standing area. Of course, there was room for one more, as Fender finished off the set with an encore of Hypersonic Missiles - a sadly pertinent hit given the current state of the world that no less left the crowd feeling rapturous and exhilarated as fireworks exploded from the ceiling to mark the end of a triumphant return for everyone’s favourite Geordie .
