Sam Heughan, best known for his role as Jamie Fraser in the popular historical drama 'Outlander,' has officially wrapped filming for the show's final season. While fans eagerly await the release of the concluding season, Heughan has been enjoying his newfound freedom, embarking on an extraordinary adventure to celebrate the end of an era.

Outlander stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe have officially wrapped up their final scenes as Jamie and Claire Fraser for the forthcoming eighth and final season of the hit historical drama. A release date has not been confirmed, but the epic saga is expected to come to an end at some point in 2025 or 2026. Until then, the stars have been enjoying their newfound freedom, as revealed in Heughan’s recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

The beloved Scottish star recently swung by the show to tease the US release of his recent project away from Outlander, Channel 4’s erotic thriller The Couple Next Door, which is now playing on Starz. During the chat, Kelly probed the star about his last few weeks since the final wrap was called for the historical fantasy series’ last outing. “It’s been a long part of my life,” he candidly shared. “So, yeah, I mean, it’s sort of bittersweet, right?” Kelly then revealed she had heard Heughan achieved something “big” to celebrate the end of filming. “We had wrap parties and everything,” he confirmed. “But, actually I went to Nepal. “I’d always wanted to go see Everest, so I went out there with a friend of mine, Jake Norton, who’s this mountaineer.” Heughan then dropped a bombshell; he and Norton were the first people to ever hike along a certain part of the Himalayas. “We hiked for two weeks along the Hunku Khola valley,” he revealed. “And we were the first people ever to do that. So we had this amazing ceremony…” Gobsmacked, Kelly interjected: “OK, Lewis and Clark! Like, wow! I didn’t even know that those adventures were still available.” Instagram Heughan replied: “There’s so much of Nepal, so many peaks that have never been climbed, that don’t even have names. “We went there, to this small village,” he continued as photos from his travels were put up on screen. “They blessed us and we then walked for two weeks and camping in this bamboo forest. “Then up into the alpine and then, as you can see, we got up to the Amphu Laptsa pass, which is like 20,000 feet, and then had to rappel several thousand feet down into the Khumbu valley. So it was pretty crazy, but a lot of fun.” “You’ve worked your whole way up and then you’ve gotta go all the way down,” Kelly laughed. To which Heughan admitted: “That’s the worst part, right? You’re like, ‘Oh, this is amazing, and I’ve worked so hard to get here. Oh God, now I’ve gotta get back down again’.” Heughan has been sharing his adventures on his Instagram account, so expect plenty more exciting posts from the Outlander heartthrob now he’s said goodbye to Jamie. Outlander is available to watch on MGM+ via Prime Video in the UK and on Starz in the US
