The Australian football star is currently on trial facing charges of racially aggravated harassment against a police officer stemming from an event in southwest London in the early hours of January 30, 2023.
PC Stephen Lovell, the officer involved, encountered Kerr that night as she was seen crawling through a shattered taxi window outside Twickenham Police Station in Kingston. The taxi driver, who transported Kerr and her partner, West Ham midfielder Kristie Mewis, to the station, claimed that the women had refused to cover the cleaning costs after one of them vomited in the vehicle and had also damaged the rear window. However, the women countered that the driver had been acting erratically by driving excessively fast, repeatedly stopping and accelerating, locking them in the car, and refusing to let them out for approximately 15 minutes. A heated argument ensued at the police station, and Kerr allegedly became verbally abusive and insulting towards PC Lovell, using derogatory terms and racial slurs. Kerr concedes to making the remarks but maintains they do not constitute racially aggravated harassment. In a subsequent police interview, Kerr expressed regret for her behavior, acknowledging that she had been too confrontational. However, she emphasized feeling deeply threatened during the taxi ride due to the driver's erratic behavior and the perceived lack of support from the police. Kerr stated she had contacted emergency services about the driver's dangerous conduct but insisted that this information was not recorded by the officers. The taxi driver was not apprehended, interviewed, or subjected to any further investigation. The trial is ongoing
