SAN ANTONIO - In this year's budget, animal care services got money to fix several things. Their response rate when you call them, dangerous dog owner complianc

Animal Care Services has released an improvement plan after stray dogs, violent animals, and lack of spay/neuter services continue to cause concern.

“The strategic plan is a start, but we really need to amp this up if we're gonna make a change here,” said Mariana Alderette Gavito at a public safety committee meeting.“I see a lot of hope and planning, but it has to be in practice, we have to see it happening,” said Melissa Cabello Havrda.“We have a 76 percent dangerous dog compliance rate,” said Shannon Oster Gabrielson, assistant to the director.

Councilmembers also brought up visibility. Right now there are 6 officers on the night shift, and 19 working during the day. That's for the whole city.
