Excessive Heat Warnings are now in effect Tuesday and Wednesday in our region and north up I-35 into the Austin area.
SAN ANTONIO - In what has been a relatively decent summer for us especially after the last two summers, we're set to endure the hottest temperatures we'll see in 2024.
Very strong ridge of high pressure continues to develop and is positioning itself for maximum heat into our region next couple of days. Hot, sinking air resides under this ridge and this particular big ridge of high pressure is similar to what we saw last year. Tuesday's air temperature will push 105 which is the criteria for a "Heat Warning" from the National Weather Service.The good news in the forecast, this big ridge will not last for weeks but instead should begin to fade as a weak upper low emerges in the northern Gulf then moves west underneath the ridge.With any luck, this ridge may eventually bring a scattered rain chance into South Texas as well.
In San Antonio, the high Wednesday and Thursday should break the daily high temperature record for both days.The hottest ever in August is 110 set in 2011.
