SAN ANTONIO - A change to the city's spay-neuter policy is under consideration.Several City Council Members want to limit the number of dogs roaming city street

President Joe Biden speaks at the commencement of Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia as he seeks to win back Black voters.Councilwoman Marina Alderete Gavito submitted a council consideration request that included ACS spaying or neuter loose dogs when they are picked up hoping to reduce the amount of strays across San Antonio . Several City Council Members want to limit the number of dogs roaming city streets with no real consequence to the owner once they are returned.

Many of them were either returned to their owner or adopted from the shelter, but the councilwoman believes that the number of strays needs to be addressed immediately. If you are paying for the procedure out of pocket, you are looking at a bill anywhere from 150 dollars to almost 700 dollars depending on if you are using a low-cost or a private veterinary office.

A spokesperson sent back a statement that said, “Animal Care Services is pleased to continue our work with District 7 as well as our other local and state lawmakers to make San Antonio a safer, more humane place for people and pets. We stay dedicated to creating policies, programs, and procedures overseen by the City’s legal review guidelines and in line with existing State law.”
