The San Antonio Missions have 10 of the top 30 San Diego Padres prospects heading into this season.
Amidst his typical springtime pursuit of hunting turkeys, Robby Snelling has traded his shotgun for a new target: opposing batters on the baseball diamond. Arriving in San Antonio last August after being called up by the Missions, Snelling, hailing from Nevada, knew he'd be far from the familiar comforts of home. To maintain a sense of connection, he opted for a tattoo.
Missions manager Luke Montz said the team will rely on its bullpen again during the season. “That's a very strong part for us,” Montz said. “From the starters and into our bullpen, we got guys that can let it loose and throw the baseball pretty firm.” The Missions have six of the Padres' top 15 pitching prospects this season. Snelling, Mazur, and Ryan Bergert are three of the Padres organization's top four pitching prospects.
