SAN ANTONIO - Another day of sweltering Texas heat but in late February. For those not ready for typical Texas heat and well aware it only gets hotter in month
s ahead, a welcome refreshing change is just around the corner.
A moderately strong cold front will surge across Texas from this evening in the north Texas Panhandle then across the rest of the state overnight through Wednesday. Best part of this cold front for those that have started their landscaping, this front poses no freeze risk in our viewing region. However, some areas in the Texas Panhandle could see temperatures at or below freezing tonight.
The cold front will arrive in and around San Antonio around 7am to 8am with earlier arrival in the Hill Country. Ahead of the front, we'll hover around 70 degrees then should see a solid 10 to 15 degree drop in temperatures within an hour or so behind the front. Winds will be gusty as well from the north with frequent gusts 30 - 40mph. By the afternoon, temperatures will recover back to the mid 60s then quickly cool into the 50s Wednesday evening.
Thursday starts in the mid to upper 40s and probably a light jacket for many but will not warm much through the day under cloudy skies and a light northeast breeze. A few sprinkles or a light shower will be possible as well making the mid 50s feel even cooler. Unfortunately if you're a big fan of this refreshing cool down, it'll quickly warm up Friday afternoon into the mid 70s then into the low 80s by the weekend. But we're not done with cold fronts. We typically see them through March into some of April. However, they'll gradually get weaker toward April. And I still do not see a freeze in our region based on the next couple weeks ahead.
