SAN ANTONIO - Animal Care Services Director Shannon Sims has officially retired, and the search has already started for his replacement.Advocates and community members have made it clear: the decision about who will be the next leader is a big one.Two candidates whose resumes we obtained are internal -, the current Assistant to the Director .
"It has to be someone who cares about animals and cares about the community," said Deanna Lee, who has been advocating about animal issues in San Antonio since 2007. "We would like a lot more input into the selection process because what happens at ACS affects the community as a whole," Lee said. The city is using a company called Affion to help vet 74 applicants for the agency's top spot. The same company is helping to recruit a fire chief for the city.
