San Antonio champion returns to super flyweight division to take on Mexican star
For San Antonio star Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez, the waiting is over. After months of negotiation, boxing’s long-anticipated showdown between Rodriguez and Juan Francisco “El Gallo” Estrada of Mexico is now official. The pair, two of the sport’s pound-for-pound best, will square off June 29 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix for Estrada’s WBC super flyweight title on DAZN.
“I will be more than ready because I know Rodriguez is a dangerous fighter. But in June it will be clear that there’s plenty of ‘Gallo’ excitement to come.” Rodriguez is returning to the 115-pound ranks, where he is used to challenging older, more experienced fighters – with great success. He first burst upon the scene in February 2022 by upsetting Carlos Cuadras of Mexico at 115 at the same Footprint Center where he’ll be fighting June 29.
