The Major League Soccer club gets two players from Danish club FC Nordsjaelland, which also has a Right to Dream academy and also plays the same unique style.
Eleven months from its inaugural game, San Diego Football Club now has three players. In December, the Major League Soccer expansion team signed 17-year-old goalkeeper Duran Ferree, keeping with its commitment to developing the top local players. On Tuesday it added two veteran players from Denmark. Denmark? It makes perfect sense. Forward Marcus Ingvartsen and defensive midfielder Jeppe Tverskov come from FC Nordsjaelland, the Danish professional club owned by the Right to Dream Academy.
Neither will count as Designated Players, the three allotted slots for marquee signings outside the salary cap. “I’ve been part of the Right to Dream playing style and part of the philosophy of this group from a very young age, developing through the years as a person and as a player,” Ingvartsen, who joined Denmark’s RTD academy before he was a teenager, said in comments provided by SDFC.
