The high street bank has urged people to take extra care when buying tickets for events.
Santander has issued a warning to all of its customers about potential ticket scams that people may end up falling victim to.
The warning comes as the Rugby World Cup begins in France, with the hosts taking on New Zealand in Paris on Friday night in the opening encounter of the competition. But it was people aged 19-34 that accounted for 60 per cent of all claims. 13-18 year olds made up 14 per cent of claims, 35-50 year olds at 15 per cent, 51-65 year olds at 8.5 per cent, and under two per cent of claims were made by people aged 66 and over.
Chris Ainsley, Head of Fraud Risk Management at Santander said: “Whether buying tickets for your favourite artist, the Rugby World Cup, or your football team, don’t score an own goal by getting scammed. If anybody has been contacted by a stranger or sees an advert online with a deal that seems too good to be true, it may be exactly that. People should be alert to potential scams and only buy tickets from official ticket sellers.
