County's Blue Envelope Program equips individuals with information that lets law enforcement officers know of any challenges
Santee has joined a host of local police agencies and nonprofits to participate in the county's Blue Envelope program following a unanimous City Council decision Wednesday. Sponsorship of the program, aimed at enhancing police communication with people with disabilities, doesn't require the city to provide any financial support, but does mean members of the public can pick up Blue Envelope materials and information in Santee.
'It could certainly be a driver, a passenger in a vehicle, somebody using public transportation, somebody walking down the street or riding a bicycle.' Through the program, participants can present their identifying information, such as ID cards or emergency contacts, in a blue envelope to officers during interactions.
