A San Antonio police officer was shot and wounded Sunday morning while responding to a domestic violence call in the 1300 block of Patricia Drive, police said.

A San Antonio police officer was shot and wounded while responding to a domestic violence incident on the North Side on Sunday morning, and the alleged shooter is dead, police said. The female officer was shot multiple times after entering an apartment in the 1300 block of Patricia Drive after receiving a call about a domestic violence situation around 3:15 a.m. Sunday, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said at a news briefing.

The man started shooting and officers returned fire, he said, citing what he called preliminary information. Officers left the apartment, and the man remained barricaded there for several hours, police said. When SWAT officers were able to enter, the man was dead, McManus said. It’s unclear if the man “took his own life or if one of the rounds fired by the officers killed him,' the chief said. The man, who was not identified, was in his 20s, McManus said.
