Sarah Ferguson underwent the operation after a routine mammogram
Sarah Ferguson feels "lucky to be alive" after an "eight hour operation" she underwent after being diagnosed with breast cancer, a friend has said.
They told the Mail on Sunday: "The surgery was very long – getting on for eight hours – and it was more involved than people think. Today, the message she wants to get out is that she is very grateful to those who saved her and she feels very lucky to be alive. The Duchess shared a photo of a purple flower, which had text written over it reading: "Thank you so much for your kindness and support".
Another person wrote: “Sending you all my love”, while another added: “Praying for your speedy recovery”.
