'Girls’ football in Rossendale is so exciting at the moment and I think it is because of the Lionesses but also because of the amazing work that is being done by Haslingden Girls and Ladies'

Primary school footballers taking part in a competition to represent Rossendale were wished well by England manager Sarina Wiegman.

Coco, a winger, has been playing since she was six starting at Wildcat sessions with Haslingden Girls and Ladies. She now plays for Burnley FC England Talent C U12, Accrington Stanley Women U12 Reds as well as Haslingden U11 Comets. School Games Organiser for Rossendale Nathan Bibby said: “We had 18 girls’ teams and 28 boys’ and mixed teams and Sports Leaders from The Valley refereed the matches and ran the event.

“Now it is obvious we have teams who have talent and those players do not just play for the school team. The standard from the girls and the boys was terrific and I was well impressed.”
