The Saudi Pro League is reportedly preparing to make a massive splash in the European transfer market by targeting two of the world's best players: Real Madrid's Vinicius Jr. and Barcelona's Pedri. While financial rewards are a significant draw, the Saudi Pro League faces challenges in securing both players due to contract extensions and hefty release clauses.
The Saudi Pro League is reportedly preparing to make a significant impact on European football by targeting two of the world's best players. Following a series of high-profile signings in the 2023 transfer window, including Karim Benzema, Sadio Mane, and Cristiano Ronaldo, the Saudi Pro League has become an increasingly attractive destination for top talent.
While the level of competition in Saudi Arabia may not yet match that of Europe's elite leagues, the substantial financial rewards on offer have proven a powerful draw. Now, reports suggest that the Saudi Pro League is prepared to launch massive bids for two of Europe's most coveted players. On Monday, it emerged that the league is preparing a staggering €350 million (£294.3 million) offer for Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr. The Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) is said to have already made contact with the Brazilian's representatives. While an official bid has yet to be submitted to Real Madrid, Saudi Pro League CEO Omar Mugharbel has hinted that a move for Vinicius Jr. is imminent. But the PIF's ambitions may extend beyond Madrid. Reports indicate that they are also interested in Barcelona's young midfielder Pedri. It is claimed that the Saudi Arabian authorities have already made contact with Pedri's representatives, expressing their interest during the recent Spanish Super Cup held in Jeddah earlier this month. Pedri would be presented with an extremely lucrative contract if he were to join the Saudi Pro League, which could include becoming an ambassador for the 2034 World Cup, set to be hosted in Saudi Arabia. However, the Saudi Pro League faces a major obstacle in their pursuit of Pedri. Despite his current contract expiring in 2026, it is reported that Pedri has already verbally agreed to extend his stay at Barcelona until 2030 or 2031. If this is true, Barcelona is unlikely to entertain any offers for their prized asset, and Saudi officials would likely have to meet Pedri's colossal €1 billion (£840.95 million) release clause to convince him to make the switch to the Pro League
