Next Monday’s collection will allow for a four-bag limit for those affected
The City of Sault Ste. Marie’s significant weather event with respect to hazardous winter storm conditions continues. Environment Canada has issued a snow squall warning for Sault Ste. Marie and area. Additional snowfall accumulations of 15 to 25 cm of snow is expected today and this evening. Strong winds, blowing snow and poor visibility continues.
As a result, garbage collection and recycling scheduled for Monday, Dec. 26 will be cancelled so operators can focus on snow clearing. Next Monday’s collection shall allow for a four bag limit for those routes affected. There is no change for the remainder of the week. Staff continue to clear snow first from the main and collector roadways. The clearing of residential areas and designated sidewalks are delayed until the main roadways and collector roads are cleared. As a result of the extensive snowfall, residents are advised that the snow plowed to the end of their driveway may be more than usual.
Sidewalks should not be blocked by vehicles at any time in order to facilitate snow removal. Motorists are reminded to drive according to the conditions and allow space for heavy equipment operators to clear and sand roadways safely and efficiently. Residents are asked to avoid parking on city streets to assist in the efficiency of maintaining the roads.
