As the Passport Office faces delays due to staff strikes, scammers are using the opportunity to make quick money from desperate holidaymakers while also stealing their identities.
The wait to renew the essential document is expected to stretch even further as a result, a situation which could cause chaos in the run-up to the summer holidays.
Unfortunately, the criminals are just out to get your money, and they can also use the personal details provided to them to steal your identity. For the one-week Fast Track service, you’ll need to go to the Post Office and pick up an application form. The whole process costs £155 for an adult passport and £126 for a child’s passport – or more if you’re wanting the 50-page frequent traveller passport.
Scammers will often use stunning pictures of holiday cottages and hotels alongside a price that is completely made up.Their victims are often told to pay using cash, via bank transfer or through services such as Western Union, which are difficult to trace and non-refundable.
