Scampton's doorstep becomes the centre of an 'ideological war' over an asylum camp. Get the full story.

Scampton residents have expressed their anger over the ideological war unfolding on their doorstep, stemming from the government's proposed asylum centre at the former RAF base.

Upon hearing the initial announcement, the National Support Detachment group, led by Alek Yerbury, planned a"camp out" in anticipation of the first buses. Her primary concern was the impact it would have on the £300 million investment deal from Scampton Holdings Ltd which promised to bring thousands of highly-skilled jobs to the area.

Highlighting a particular incident, the Tory councillor mentioned a white supremacy flag that Yerbury was seen standing in front of during a rally in Lincoln in July, remarking:"That doesn't go unnoticed."Caroline Whyte, another resident of the camp, aligned with Yerbury during the weekend's events, insisting"the country is full".

Overlooking Scampton village, he said:"Raising awareness is futile at this point, everybody knows about the issue. He continued:"My initial reaction was to face off with them, but I know that nobody that lives around here will agree with the message they are promoting.
