On Saturday, Armstrong propelled Team USA to its first gold medal of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games after swimming 46.75 in the third leg of the 4x100 free relay, clocking the fastest time of his team. His former coach at Ohio State, Bill Dorenkott, could not contain his excitement after watching Armstrong help Team USA to victory, filling his hotel room in California with loud cheers.
Dorenkott coached Armstrong for two seasons at Ohio State, where he watched the swimmer break program records, win five medals in the 2022 World Championships, and capture five titles at the 2022 Big Ten Championship meet.
