“A lot of parents, myself included, look at a fee schedule for a particular school and think it’s achievable. They just don’t realise fees are just half of it,” Ms Hill said. Out-of-pocket expenses were much higher for independent schools than for Catholic and public schools. Ms Hill said most independent schools were increasing fees for 2023 by between 3-5 per cent, with a few outliers hiking fees by as much as 10 per cent.
