Bethany started losing weight rapidly and nobody could figure out why
Jenna Williams said she spent five months not knowing why her daughter Bethany's health was deteriorating after she came down with a sickness bug. Jenna said doctors initially thought Bethany had gastritis, but her health continued to deteriorate to the point where she lost two and a half stone in weight and needed a wheelchair.
Jenna who lives in Suffolk said: "It was a really awful time for us, we spent five months going back and forth from the hospital and just not knowing what was wrong with her. I had a feeling it was something more serious than gastritis because no treatment seemed to work." Bethany’s health deteriorated and she even began using a wheelchair as she was too weak to walk. When her glasses snapped in May 2021, Jenna took Bethany into Specsavers to replace them and once there, the 15-year-old was offered an eye test.
With Bethany’s formal diagnosis confirmed in May 2021, she was transferred to Addenbrooke’s Hospital where she underwent lifesaving surgery. Testing the mass after surgery, Bethany was told that her tumour was cancerous and would need further treatment to stop regrowth.
