Several schools in Scotland remain closed due to snow and ice, with forecasts predicting further disruption throughout the week.

A number of Scots schools will remain closed today amidst another blast of wintry weather. Classrooms in Aberdeenshire, Moray and the Highlands will be shut again delaying a return for pupils following the Christmas break. Education bosses were forced to halt teaching as a blanket of snow and ice covered parts of Scotland on Monday. A yellow warning remains in force today (Tuesday) until 12pm with more wintry showers set to land on the north east and the highlands.

Forecasters say there could be another day of travel disruption. It comes after the cold snap wreaked havoc on flights from Aberdeen Airport yesterday, with flights either delayed or cancelled. Airline companies based at the Granite City travel hub were unable to de-ice planes forcing flights to be re-routed through Edinburgh . The Met Office have warned that overnight snow showers could have brought a further 2 to 5cm of snow in some places, with 5 to 10cm falling on higher ground above 200m. As well as impacting the north of Scotland, snow showers could reach, Dumfries and Galloway, Argyll and Bute, and parts of Ayrshire. Last night ScotRail issued a warning to passengers. The rail operator posted on X: 'The Met Office have updated weather warnings for snow and ice across Scotland, covering today and Tuesday. With very cold weather throughout the full week. Please check your entire journey using our app or website if you’re travelling, delays and alterations may occur.'
