Schutt and Mooney lead Australia to Women’s T20 World Cup win over Sri Lanka‘We were decent without being perfect,’ says Alyssa HealyThe fast bowler Megan Schutt equalled a record before the opener Beth Mooney produced a steadying knock as Australia opened their T20 World Cup title defence with a six-wicket win over Sri Lanka.Cricket
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Sri Lanka slumped to two for six in the fourth over and never recovered as Australia’s star-studded attack turned the screw. The spinner Sophie Molineux finished with two for 20 from her four overs, but it was Schutt who proved the trickiest to handle. The temperature soared into the mid-30s during the match, but Australia’s use of daily sauna sessions last month meant they were well prepared for what was to come.
Australia’s Schutt took three for 12 to help restrict Sri Lanka to seven for 93, equalling Shabnim Ismail’s record of 43 T20 World Cup wickets in the process.Nilakshi de Silva top-scored for Sri Lanka with an unbeaten 29 off 40 balls, while Harshitha Samarawickrama and Anushka Sanjeewani were the only other batters to make double figures.
