Scientists have found pieces of Covid antigens in the blood and tissue samples of long Covid sufferers, providing evidence of long-term persistence of the virus. This discovery could lead to better understanding and treatment of the condition.

Sufferers of long Covid experience symptoms such as fatigue, shortness of breath, loss of smell, and muscle aches. Recent studies have found pieces of Covid antigens in the blood up to 14 months after infection and for more than two years in tissue samples . This discovery provides strong evidence that Covid can persist long-term in some individuals, potentially leading to long Covid or other post-Covid complications.

However, not everyone who was previously infected had fragments of Covid in their system, and even those who did didn't always develop long Covid. The viral fragments were found in connective tissue, suggesting that they could be triggering an immune response
