The forecaster has warned that adverse weather conditions may result in flooding and transport delays.
Some parts of Scotland may be battered by thunderstorms and lashings of rain this weekend, the Met Office has warned.
It comes after an unusually hot June, with several weather records for high temperatures being broken over the course of last month. The forecaster said: "Scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms will occur across parts of Scotland and northern England. Lightning and hail are likely in places, whilst rainfall totals of 15-20 mm in one hour are possible, with a few places seeing 30 mm within 2-3 hours.
