One win in 15 for Steve Clarke but it wasn't all doom and gloom amongst the experts watching the game in Zagreb
It's one win in 15 for Steve Clarke after letting the lead slip in Croatia, who claimed all three Nations League points in Zagreb. Ryan Christie fired the visitors ahead, but the advantage lasted barely three minutes as Igor Matanovic arrowed in an equaliser. Andrej kramaric then made the second half pressure from the hosts count when he nodded in the rebound from close range following a Craig Gordon save.
There was disappointment in the end, just the delivery method was a little different. Scotland have shipped way too many late goals in recent games. This time they thought they'd nabbed a 95th minute equaliser when Che Adams forced Kristijan Jakic to bundle the ball into his own net.
James McFadden "I think you could argue we deserved something from all three games in the campaign so far. We gave Croatia the credit and respect they were due in terms of speaking about them and highlighting their qualities. I didn't see a massive gulf between both sides. They;re a good side, but I felt as though Scotland were very good.
Willie Miller "Another very good performance. I think Steve Clarke can be more than delighted. I said before the game I was a little bit nervous because of the ravages of injury he's had to deal with. But the players who came in, Doak in particular was a standout. He was really positive. Croatia were the better team for the majority of the second half, but to come back in that last 15 minutes or so shows you the character of the players that he's got.
Tom English "It's three one goal defeats, three games lost in the last seconds and it's kind of Groundhog Day with a little twist with that late goal that was ruled out as opposed to an opposition goal that went in. I think Scotland played well tonight and I'm disappointed for the players. They were shorn of a lot of top class players tonight but they dug in really well. They deserved to get something out of it so my overarching feeling is that. Encouraging signs though, yep.
