Time Out magazine has released a list of the 17 best fish and chip shops in the UK, featuring three Scottish locations. Anstruther Fish Bar in Fife came in at number five, praised for its fresh seafood and crispy batter. Fochabers Fish Bar in Moray snagged the sixth spot for its retro interior and delicious haddock suppers. Frankie's Fish & Chips in Shetland rounded out the Scottish representation at number nine, lauded for its sustainable practices and crispy battered haddock.
All over Scotland , there are countless chippies that serve up crispy battered fish and tasty chips. Everyone has their own local favourite, but some fish and chip shops are more acclaimed than others.
The highest-placing Scots takeaway on the magazine's roundup is the Anstruther Fish Bar. Coming in at number five, the fish and chip shop is situated in the Fife town of Anstruther and overlooks its harbour. Time Out stated: "If there’s a general rule of thumb to follow when it comes to finding good fish and chips, it’s that the closer a chippy is to a body of water, the better it’s likely to be. That rationale certainly rings true for the Anstruther Fish Bar.
Meanwhile, placing at number six on Time Out's list of the best chippies in the UK is Fochabers Fish Bar. Located in the Moray village of Fochabers, the takeaway was applauded for its "refreshingly retro interior".
