The Daily Record has taken a look back at the tragic 1968 Hurricane that remains Scotland's most deadly natural disaster — with more than 20 people said to have lost their life.
Scotland is known for its wet and windy weather, but usually it is little more than an inconvenience.
Journeying back, the hurricane began near Bermuda on January 13, 1968. Over the next 24 hours, it made its way towards Scotland where it would cause untold carnage. Winds of more than 100 miles per hour were recorded, as well as significant rainfall. Ancient trees were uprooted and debris was flying at staggering speeds.
Scottish history The destruction of the 1968 Hurricane didn't end with the tragic loss of life. It also left around thousands of Scots homeless, and cost approximately tens of millions of pounds in damages.
