The scheme will aim to improve joint working so that agencies can intervene early and protect young people

Whoever wins the SNP leadership contest must make improving the lives of young people a priority. The Daily Record’s Our Kids…Our Future campaign has raised serious questions about how we tackle a rise in violent attacks on young people.

Scotland’s Solicitor General Ruth Charteris KC says the project will specifically target young people at risk of exploitation, with improved ­coordination between all the arms of the justice system. The scheme involves peer mentors with lived experience of serious organised crime engaging with young people.

But any effort to help young people steer away from crime needs to get to those most at risk. Every child should have the chance to reach their full potential but for too many teenagers it is all too easy to slip into a life of crime. Be green & smart Tackling climate change and protecting the planet for future generations is the No1 issue facing governments across the world. Key is moving beyond fossil fuels to clean energy sources that do not raise global temperatures.
