A new study by Halifax has revealed the top places in the UK for first-time buyers to get on the property ladder, and two Scottish destinations are included in the top 10.

The most "up-and-coming" town in Scotland for first-time homeowners has been announced, and it is perfectly situated between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

As reported by the Scottish Daily Express, the research took into account house prices and survey findings about first-time buyers’ priorities. These included links to major cities, access to good schooling, closeness to green spaces, and local regeneration. Among the highlights of Falkirk are the iconic Kelpies — two 30-metre-high horse head sculptures — and the Falkirk Wheel, which is the only rotating boat lift in the world. Elsewhere, top sights in the town according to travel website Tripadvisor include the historic Callendar House mansion and go-karting track Xtreme Karting.

Other findings from the bank's survey include the fact that 61 per cent of young adults who have not bought a home would be willing to relocate to a different part of the UK in order to get on the property ladder.
