The Scottish town of Ayr was recently branded the 'worst' seaside resort to visit in the country — but it is actually a great place to visit for an autumn day out.
As previously reported by the Daily Record, the coastal Ayr shire town ranked at the bottom of a UK-wide survey according to Which?. The consumer watchdog gave Ayr an overall score of 57 out of 100 based on factors such as its shopping and seafront.
For example, even though the town was given a measly one-star rating for its shopping, it boasts a treasure trove of independent shops where you can find everything from bespoke jewellery to stylish apparel and whisky. It isn't just small local businesses either, with big-name stores like Primark, River Island, and New Look found in Ayr's shopping centre.
Meanwhile, Ayr's beach is another aspect where the town shines. Even though Which? assigned it three stars, the scenic bay arguably deserved a higher score. Additionally, Ayr is rich in family-friendly activities to enjoy with little ones. Highlights include a dedicated playground that includes its own putting green and the Pirate Pete's Family Entertainment Centre — offering everything from go-karts to laser tag.
