ScotRail has issued a warning about a fake account on social media that is attempting to scam customers by pretending to be the travel company. The account has a similar username to ScotRail and has been responding to customers' concerns about cancelled trains. ScotRail reminds customers that they will never ask for money on online platforms and advises against giving out personal details.

SCOTRAIL has warned customers not to be fooled by a fake account attempting to “scam” people by pretending to be the travel firm.

The government-owned rail company put out a warning on social media on Sunday, saying it would never ask for money on those online platforms.“Our only username is @ScotRail and our only WhatsApp account is 07555012345. Anything else is a scam.@ScotRailAn account with an extremely similar username to ScotRail has been seen responding to customers raising concerns about cancelled trains on Twitter/X.

The account asked people to follow them and check their personal messages for assistance. It has responded to people who have commented under authentic ScotRail posts. The scam account uses exactly the same profile bio as the real one, but lacks an official “verified” tick on Twitter/X. As such, it also has a circular profile image, rather than a square one.

ScotRail had put out a similar warning earlier in October, cautioning people that they had received “reports” about a potential scam and not to give out their personal details.Readers’ comments: You are personally liable for the content of any comments you upload to this website, so please act responsibly.
