Ex-forces brothers Matthew and Tony Smith trekked 100km to mark the 80th anniversary of the kidnapping of General Heinrich Kreipe in Crete.
Two Scots brothers have re-enacted a daring World War Two operation which saw Allied soldiers in Crete escape from Nazi butchers over treacherous mountains.
Matthew, 47, who served in Royal Signals Corp and now runs SOE Expeditions which led the trek, told the Record: "It was tough going - with the tallest mountain in Crete being twice the size of Ben Nevis - especially in the first few days after leaving Scotland to go into 30 degree heat! "They spoke about how they stood up to the Nazis and killed thousands of German paratroopers by coming out with old muskets and pitchforks.Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
