A policeman has told how he fears his daughter could “eat herself to death” due to a rare genetic condition that means she “never feels full”
. Alan Auld from Troon is desperate for scientists to find a cure for Prader-Willi syndrome , which causes his daughter, Iona, 15, to suffer every day with chronic hunger.
“We know that Iona would eat herself to death if she was left to her own devices. She will always need care. She will never be able to be left on her own, or live independently.” Alan says the family, including brother Cameron, 22, still struggle to understand PWS. He added: “We read up on it and it said children die in adolescence because they just eat themselves to death, they just suffocate and die from health complications.
“It can be really challenging for us. She never accepts that she is full. I’ve heard horror stories of children raiding bins, or stealing money just so they can buy more food.
