When Simon was around halfway through the journey, his main engine failed and the craft began to take on freezing water.

A Scots GP was rescued by an RNLI crew after his boat engine failed and he nearly crashed into rocks near a harbour.

Wife Sue Bagley, 51, and her daughter Hannah, 17, were waiting on Simon at the harbour to tow the boat back home but spotted RNLI crews heading out to sea, Edinburgh Live reports.Out at sea, Simon had been forced to carry on his journey with a secondary and less powerful engine when the main engine failed.

The doctor was taken aboard the RNLI craft and was freezing from the battering he received from the waves. “He does that run every year and it is fairly uneventful. I normally track him on the phone and when he is getting closer I will meet him with the trailer. “When the RNLI made contact with him, he said he was fine at first but due to how much water the boat was taking on the second engine also failed. He then began drifting dangerously close to the rocks outside of the harbour.”

Sue added: “I was so impressed. Both my husband and I have medical backgrounds and we felt reassured with how they handled everything.
