In a letter, the director of children's services at Renfrewshire Council, Steven Quinn, said: "You may be aware of an incident at Johnstone High School earlier today. I am writing to you to provide some information and to reassure you that all pupils are safe and well.
"As you’ll appreciate, this is an ongoing police matter so I cannot say any more at this stage. I would like to reassure you that I and senior staff are on hand to offer any support needed to staff and pupils. I have updated parents and carers with this information. If you require any further information, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. "
