Harris Macdonnell was placed in a locked psychiatric ward where he was diagnosed with autism.
The family of a Scots teenager who took his own life after being admitted to a secure psychiatric ward hope that an inquiry into his death will stop other families suffering the same loss they did.
"While in the ward he was diagnosed with autism and he found this hard to accept. What he saw in the ward freaked him out and he couldn't cope." "He was so anxious and stressed. In the weeks before he died he was having a terrible time. We told the doctor and OT he was getting worse but they didn't get back to us. Days later he was dead."We believe Harris would still be with us if had he not been sent there. He was struggling to come to terms with his autism diagnosis and that amplified everything for him."
"But I can't help think why did they let him go to that ward. Mental health services did him more harm than good. He was in crisis and we were so confused by it all.
