Janet Weatheritt has had life-altering issues with mesh and still requires more surgery after heading to the US for treatment.
A mum who went to the US to have mesh removed under a government scheme has said women are returning home needing further surgery as the contract doesn’t allow post-op repairs to be carried out.
Janet, from Morningside in Lanarkshire, said: “I had mesh to repair a bowel prolapse and again with a bladder issue. The mesh worked as scaffolding and since it’s been removed I have had ongoing issues with my bladder and bowels again. As of March, there have been 58 approved referrals, with 18 in Bristol, 38 in the USA, and two in UK Mesh Centres for second opinions only. Of these, 40 surgeries have been completed thus far.
“When I came home I saw my doctor who said he didn’t have the skill to repair it.
