After being approached at her home, Maureen Gunn has admitted that she regrets her decision to send money to a mystery man online and asks herself 'why did I do it?' every day.

A Scots pensioner who embezzled over £14,000 from her own mother has admitted that she lies in bed wondering 'why did I do it?'.

It has since emerged the fake pictures sent to the duped woman were of an openly gay Danish sea captain called Thomas Lindegaard Madsen. "He promised when he came over to visit he would settle up. It's really sad that's someone's job - to con women out of their life savings. I wish there was a way I could warn people as the thought of this happening to someone else makes me feel sick."

"I pled guilty against my lawyer's advice," she continued. "I said 'I'm guilty' and I didn't care if I got sent to jail, I would have taken any punishment on the chin. I'm not looking for sympathy, it has been a horrible experience.
