A leading charity warned the number of older Scots facing financial hardship was 'unacceptable'.
The number of Scots pensioners applying for assistance from a national welfare fund has rocketed in recent years, a leading charity has warned.
The SWF, which is distributed by local authorities, provides crisis grants to those aged 16 or over on low incomes. Debbie Horne, a public affairs manager at the charity, said: "The rising number of those in later life applying to the SWF shows there is an unacceptable number of older people struggling to financially stay afloat.
“The Scottish Government must commit to publishing a plan to reduce pensioner poverty across the country in the upcoming Programme for Government.
